WALK & TRAIN

Structured Walk & Train Sessions

Structured Walk & Train sessions are designed to maintain and build upon your dog’s training while working towards specific goals.

These sessions take place in carefully chosen environments tailored to your dog’s needs, providing real-world scenarios to reinforce their skills.

Depending on your dog’s progress, they may also be worked around stooge dogs to help address socialisation or reactivity, offering targeted practice in a controlled yet challenging setting.

Walk & Train sessions are available exclusively to existing clients to ensure consistency and progress in your dog’s training. To maintain the best results, these sessions require at least one 1-2-1 lesson per month. This ensures that the training remains consistent outside of the walks, allowing us to address any issues that arise and fine-tune your approach, so you and your dog continue to thrive.

  • Where are you based?
I am based in Southampton, Hampshire, and offer training across the city and surrounding areas. My sessions are designed to reflect real-world scenarios, so training takes place in local green spaces or other environments that best support the specific needs of each dog.
  • Where do your sessions take place?
The approach varies depending on the dog. I believe in training in real-world environments, as that's where you'll be walking and working with your dog daily. For behavioral challenges, we begin in quiet, controlled settings to establish strong foundational handling skills before progressing to more complex environments. If you have a specific goal or location in mind, we can tailor the sessions to work towards achieving that over time.
  • What do I need to do to prepare for my lesson?
Fox K9 Training is a judgement-free zone. Your first session will be all about getting to know you and your dog, discussing any challenges you're facing, and understanding your goals. There's no need to worry about your dog's current behaviour or training level - this is a safe space for growth. I use your dog's daily food for training, so please bring it along in a pouch, along with their collar, lead, and either a longline or flexi-lead. If you have any questions or concerns before your session, don't hesitate to reach out - I'm here to help!
  • Does my dog need to be a certain age to begin training?
Not at all! It's never too late to begin training your dog. If you have a puppy, we can start building strong foundations right away to help them grow into a well-rounded dog. For older dogs of any age, we'll work together to understand your goals and create a tailored plan to achieve them.
  • Are your sessions group sessions or 1-2-1s?
I offer 1-2-1 sessions to provide dedicated, personalised attention for you and your dog. These sessions are especially important for behaviour modification, where you'll learn how to handle your dog and, if beneficial, gradually work with my stooge dogs to enhance their training. Group classes are available for regular clients and you’ll be invited to join once your dog’s training reaches a level that’s suitable for a group environment.
  • How long is a session?
1-2-1 sessions are typically 1 hour long, but longer sessions can be arranged if you're traveling from a distance or if your dog requires more intensive training.
  • I have more than one dog - do I need to book separate sessions?
If both of your dogs require training for behavioural issues it's best to book separate sessions to ensure each dog receives the focused attention they need. However, if you're looking for general obedience training, I can arrange 1.5-hour sessions that can be split between the two dogs. Please email me for further details.
  • How often do you recommend sessions take place?
The frequency of sessions depends on the specific challenges you're addressing with your dog. For foundational training, such as loose lead walking and recall, I recommend scheduling sessions every 2 weeks to once a month to maintain steady progress until you're satisfied with your dog's behaviour. For more complex training and behaviour modification, weekly to bi-weekly sessions are ideal, as regular adjustments may be necessary to ensure consistent progress.
  • Who can attend Group Class?
Group classes are available exclusively to existing clients and are tailored to each dog's individual progress and training stage. You will be informed in your 1-2-1 lessons when your dog is ready to join.
  • Where are group classes held?
Group classes are held at a secure field to ensure a safe and focused environment. The location will be shared with clients once they have been invited to join the classes.
  • How many dogs attend each class?
Group classes are capped at 10 dogs to ensure each participant receives the individual attention they deserve, while also providing ample space for dogs to feel comfortable and focused when needed.
  • What is a Neutral Walk?
Fox K9 Training neutral walks offer a structured opportunity for clients to come together, enjoy each other's company, and continue training their dogs in a supportive environment. Exclusively available to existing clients, Neutral Walks serve as a smooth transition from group classes to real-world settings, with a trainer on hand for guidance if needed. These walks are a fantastic way for dogs to practice appropriate behaviour in the presence of other dogs, while also boosting handler confidence.
  • Where do Neutral Walks take place?
Neutral Walks take place in a variety of locations across Southampton, including peaceful spots like the New Forest and more bustling areas such as Southampton Common, offering dogs the opportunity to tackle a range of challenges in real-world environments.
